Sreynin Born
My name is Sreynin Born. I was born on April 11, 2002, in Kompongsromor village, ChheuTeal commune, Banan district, Battambang province. And I will be graduating from University in February 2025. I have one little sister. I grew up in a very poor family, living in a small house made of coconut leaves. We struggled to find enough food to eat, and this experience has shaped who I am today. Living in poverty taught me to be strong and appreciate the little things in life.

When I was about 2 years old, my parents had to travel to another province to find work for money to buy rice and food. During that time, I stayed with my grandma. One night, I became very ill with a fever. My grandma, who had little money and no way to call my parents, cried and didn’t know what to do. She kept trying to cool me down with a wet towel until 5 am. Then, she carried me to the clinic. The kind doctor recognized my grandma and treated me, allowing her to pay when she could. This memory brings tears to my eyes every time I recall it.

My parents are farmers who work hard for my little sister and me. They believe education is important, so they encouraged us to study well and never worry about them. When I was in high school, they relied on the coconuts from their 4-5 coconut trees to pay for my daily spending at school, earning only 200 riel per coconut. Despite our poverty, my parents taught me the value of hard work. They always said that education could help me find better jobs and improve our lives. Their sacrifices inspire me to study harder and strive for a better future. I am thankful for their support and love, and I want to make them proud.

Since December 2022, I have been part of TASSEL. Visiting the families of students and other villagers reminds me of my childhood. The hardships these students face remind me of my own tough life. Many children are sad and in need of support. I have a strong desire to make a difference. Having come from a poor family, I understand the struggles of those in need. And working at TASSEL is a great opportunity for me to help improve these difficult situations. I feel hopeful when I see positive changes in the lives of these kids, and I am grateful to be a part of TASSEL.
