Pang

Hello, my name is Pang. I am 80 years old. My neighbors give me rice and sometimes fish to eat. My sister-in-law and I live in Kampong Puoy village, but I am originally from Kampot, a region in eastern Cambodia. When I was a young girl, I did not go to school, but we had enough to eat from the food that my parents farmed. However, when the Khmer Rouge came, we became slaves and were never fed enough. I have been poor and without adequate food ever since.

One day, during the Khmer Rouge era, the soldiers came to find my husband, who, although a slave, was staying home because of an illness. The soldiers offered to take him to the hospital. My four-year old child was also sick, so I asked them to take my child as well. I was told by my neighbors that the soldiers killed both my husband and child. This was my life's biggest mistake. Why did I trust the soldiers?

Life has been very difficult. I was very sick last month and I thought I was going to die. Fortunately, I started receiving money from kind foreigners at TASSEL. My sister-in-law was able to buy medicine and I feel much better.
